Curriculum Supports and Suggestions for Grades 6-12
Educators, students, and parents now have access to new
digital resources that complement learning across multiple areas of study and
put Louisiana history and culture center stage! Developed by LPB Education,
these free educational resources offer entertaining and informative content for
twenty-four curriculum supports. As Louisiana’s largest digital classroom, LPB
is committed to providing resources so educators and parents can extend
learning.
Teacher Scholarship Opportunity
The LPB Lagniappe initiative is a way to support
teachers by offsetting the costs of classroom supplies. The fund is supported
by LPB membership revenues raised by Why Louisiana Ain’t Mississippi…
or Any Place Else! during this school year. So far, LPB has been able
to help nearly a dozen teachers across Louisiana, thanks to member support of
this documentary.

Your Generosity In Action
Hidden in the piney woods of North Central Louisiana, Winn Parish is a Louisiana treasure trove. At Winnfield Middle School, we will use our LPB Lagniappe Scholarship to purchase materials for student research, writing, and art projects that will allow students to discover and highlight some of our local treasures. Our students will unearth clues and create collaborative artworks as they explore local legends, such as the home-grown political duo of Huey P. and Earl K. Long or the lofty pines of Kisatchie National Forest. The project will culminate with a community show featuring student writing, research presentations and artwork. Thank you LPB!
Thank you so very much for supporting Louisiana Classroom Teachers! My students are wonderful and I look forward to using those classroom supplies with them. Let the creativity begin! Some of the items Ms. Mathews will be purchasing with her scholarship include; large and small post-it notes, rubber bands for building catapults in science, construction paper for building eclipse viewers, wooden craft sticks-building Rube Goldberg machines, string for use as pulleys, used as pulleys, red solo cups for holding pencils/colored pencils and scissors, colored pencils for coloring various items on the periodic table, and paper plates and straws-for weigh boats and modeling of waves.
As the STEM teacher and program developer/coordinator at my school, I will use the funds to purchase STEM supplies for the engineering carts in our lab. This will allow students to have access to quality, free materials during STEM labs that promote critical thinking and problem solving.
